Michot: “Muslims’ Challenges Today”A social time with light refreshments will follow the lecture Saturday, February 20 Temple Beth Israel, 6622 N. Maroa, Fresno 8:30 am – 2:30 pm Lectures by Dr. Yahya M. Michot: “Islamic Theology, Past and Present” and “Monotheism and Prophethood: The Meaning of a Creed.” Continental breakfast, Shabbat observance, vegetarian buffet lunch, and discussion time with Dr. Michot through the day. Sunday, February 21 Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno, 2672 E. Alluvial Avenue, Fresno 10:30 am worship service with a sermon by Dr. Yahya M. Michot: “The Way (Sharia): Ethics, Love and Mystical Praxis.” Dr. Yahya Michot is Professor of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary. He is on the faculty of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, and is Co-Editor of the journal The MuslimWorld. Dr. Yahya Michot is an internationally recognized scholar. He is the author of a long list of scholarly publications, including many articles and several books. He is one of the foremost experts on the historically important thinkers Avicenna and Ibn Taymiyya. He has participated in more than forty international conferences since 2000. He has served as Director of Research and Lecturer at the Institut Superieur de Philosophie at Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and Islamic Chief Lecturer in the Faculty of Theology of Oxford University. |
