Worship Service Descriptions PDF Print E-mail
The 9:00 am classic worship service is more “traditional” in style, consisting of elements common to Christian mainline Protestant denominations in the US and Western Europe. Worship leaders and the gathered congregation may alternate speaking lines of a call to worship or prayer. Classical music and hymns are typically part of the service though other styles of music may be incorporated. A choir often sings.  A brief children’s message may be given. A scripture text from the Bible is read aloud and a sermon or thoughtful reflection on the text for the day is offered as food-for-thought and action. Baskets are passed to collect financial donations to support the work of the church for those who may wish to and are able to give. The gathered congregation may share aloud words of gratitude or concerns followed by a prayer usually offered by the pastor. A prayer that Jesus taught his followers, called “the Lord’s prayer,” is spoken aloud by the gathered community. The service ends with a benediction, or blessing, or words with which to send people off to serve others.

The 11:15 am contemporary worship service is more – well – “contemporary” in style, consisting of elements common to Christian mainline Protestant denominations in the US and Western Europe. A media screen and projector are used, casting words, photos and video clips before our eyes to enhance the sensory nature of worship. Worship leaders and the gathered congregation may alternate speaking lines of a call to worship or prayer. A band of musicians accompanies singing, typically including a pianist, lead guitarist, bass guitarist and drummer. Song styles are typically light rock or – well – “contemporary”! You may see a skit or you may be invited to participate in a symbolic activity to heighten our collective awareness of a theme for the day. A modern language version of a prayer that Jesus taught his followers may be spoken aloud by the gathered community. The service ends with a benediction, or blessing, or words with which to send people off to serve others.

UCC National

The United Church of Christ is a community of faith that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different Christian traditions. From the beginning of our history, we were a church that affirmed the ideal that Christians did not always have to agree in order to live together in communion. Our motto, "that they may all be one",  is Jesus' prayer for the unity of the church...
